We've operated as carbon neutral since the company was founded. For us, carbon neutrality doesn't just mean offsetting what's left over — it starts with reviewing what we actually need and minimising our footprint first. We follow the Finnish Ministry of the Environment's guidance on claims about offsetting emissions, and Koodia Suomesta ry's guidelines for the Carbon Neutral mark. Our company holds the Carbon Neutral certification from Koodia Suomesta ry, and we're committed to staying carbon neutral going forward.
Offsetting shouldn't be a substitute for improving our own operations. So we work through it in order: identify our most significant emission sources, minimise them through practical measures, calculate what's left, offset the remainder carefully, and refine the whole process every year.
We work actively to minimise our carbon footprint. In practice that means:
Our main procurement criterion is how well a supplier's practices match our sustainability values — not price alone.
Our carbon footprint calculation covers the material emission sources in our own operations: our equipment, purchased server capacity, travel, and other sources relevant to how we work.
We calculate our carbon footprint using emission factor data originally compiled by Compensate Oy (now discontinued), covering our entire operations and scaled by headcount. We also double-count the emissions from our own equipment — screens, computers, and phones — and our purchased server capacity, so that offsetting gets us to at least carbon neutral even where the underlying data carries some uncertainty. Our footprint currently stands at 16.3 tCO2 per year.

We offset our remaining emissions using carefully selected projects certified under the Gold Standard. Offset units don't remove the need to cut our own emissions — they're the last step, after we've identified our emission sources and minimised what we can.

Carbon accounting is an ongoing process for us, not a once-a-year exercise. Next, we're focused on collecting emissions and sustainability data from our suppliers, tracking cloud and AI resource use more precisely, measuring digital load and data volumes better, and building metrics to track the areas of nature impact we've already identified (devices, cloud and AI infrastructure, procurement).
